 Getting Involved - Liturgy

Getting involved - LiturgyExtraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion - Assists the priests in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ at Sunday Mass. This ministry is performed out of love for the Eucharist and for the people of God. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are expected to dress in a modest manner and perform their ministry reverently. They attend a preparation class through the Diocese of Cleveland (sessions held in Spring and Fall), and sign up to serve at the Mass they attend.  For more information, contact Fr. Lanning.

Home Visit Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion - Takes the Body of Christ to parishioners who are shut-ins.  A special group also takes Communion to the Rockport Retirement Community.  The minister can imitate Christ by being there, visiting, praying and sharing. St. Angela's has teams to ministers to various corners of the city on a rotating basis. In order to be put in touch with a team captain, contact Fr. Lanning.

Mass Coordinators - Assists the priest setting up for the weekend liturgies, and cleaning of sacred vessels after Mass. Scheduling is flexible.  Contact Fr. Lanning.

Lectors - Trained lay persons to proclaim the Word of God at all the liturgies or special services throughout the year. Christ is present in the proclamation of the Word of God, "since it is he himself that speaks when the holy scriptures are read in the Church." The benefits include better comprehension of the Word of God with practice and gaining experience in public speaking. Lectors are scheduled monthly and must arrive 15 minutes before the start of the liturgy and be prepared for the ministry. Contact Fr. Lanning.

Altar Servers – Open to boys and girls starting during their 6th year in school.  Altar Servers assist the priest at Mass during the week and on weekends. Servers arrive 15 minutes before Mass.  Weekday servers (grade school age) are scheduled to serve either Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday.  Weekend servers (high school age) are scheduled for 2 weekends during the month depending on their Mass preference. Adult Altar Servers are sometimes used when school children are not available. Contact Linda Corcoran.

Ushers - Offer hospitality and welcome to the assembly by providing for the physical needs of the assembly such as finding seats, gathering the offering with warmth and gratitude, and offering other assistance as needed. Contact Ed Doubrava.
